FEMS Junior EUROMAT 2026 was successfully held in Trikala, Greece, from 12–16 July 2026, bringing together students, early-career researchers, and established scientists from across Europe and beyond for an inspiring week dedicated to materials science and engineering.
Organised by the Hellenic Metallurgical Society (HMS) under the auspices of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS), the conference provided an outstanding platform for young researchers to present their work, exchange ideas, and build lasting international collaborations.
The scientific programme featured plenary and keynote lectures by internationally renowned experts from leading institutions, including the University of Cambridge (UK), Rowan University (USA), the University of North Texas (USA), and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). The programme also included oral and poster presentations covering a broad spectrum of materials science topics, industrial tutorials, and networking activities that fostered interaction between academia, research organisations and industry. Poster awards, technical discussions, and social events further highlighted both the scientific excellence of the participants and the cultural heritage of the region.
The conference welcomed 190 participants representing 35 countries based on institutional affiliation, reflecting its strong international reach. The audience was composed primarily of the next generation of materials scientists, with 58% predoctoral researchers and 42% early-career postdoctoral researchers and young professionals. The conference also achieved an excellent gender balance, further demonstrating its commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse scientific community.
With its high scientific quality, vibrant atmosphere, and broad international participation, FEMS Junior EUROMAT 2026 was a great success, reaffirming its role as one of Europe’s leading conferences dedicated to the next generation of materials scientists and engineers.
